Positive Virus News Yesterday

5th of January, 2021

Despite the country being weary, covid case numbers yesterday remained limited.

NSW recorded two new locally transmitted cases and Victoria two yesterday. Despite this indicating the virus is still spreading, case numbers are yet to take off.

Concerns remain about the Christmas and New Year period. This is usually a time of travel and socialising, which would speed up the spread of the virus.

If by the end of January case numbers are still contained, then we would have averted a high-risk period. As Australia’s case numbers remain contained, the UK has imposed a nationwide lockdown as case numbers surge and fears of hospitals being overwhelmed grows.

The UK have just approved the Oxford Uni and AstraZeneca vaccine which means they have two vaccines being distributed. Already roughly 1.5 people per 100 in the UK have been vaccinated, so a second vaccine should increase the pace of this.

In America over 2 million people have been vaccinated as their case numbers remain high. Australia is set for a March rollout of the vaccine, so in the interim containment of the virus through lockdowns will be a priority.
