As the son of a diplomat, Andrew spent his childhood in many of the great cities of the world – New York, London and Canberra – before settling in Sydney.

He began his career with a decade at NAB Treasury on wholesale money-market and fixed-interest desks, and was thrown in at the deep end when the 1987 stock market crash hit just two weeks after he joined. It was to be the first of many financial market gyrations he has worked through.

Andrew’s portfolio at NAB included the largest in the market, such as AMP and BT Funds Management as well as many other fixed-interest asset managers. He has been intimately involved in all money market instruments, bonds, floating rate notes and derivatives including swaps, floating rate agreements and options.

He was taking a break from the finance industry – enjoying a stint as an award-winning commercials and TV director – at the time explosively charged products such as CDOs were peddled to unsuspecting buyers, and boasts unblemished record.

Andrew has been heavily involved in financial markets education, having been an exam marker and lecturer for SIA/FINSIA/Kaplan since 1994. He has also been a FINSIA Fellow since 2000, and a certified professional with the Finance and Treasury Association (FTA) since 2015.

He founded Curve Securities in 2009 to bring ease, simplicity and high quality service to the placement and raising of deposit funds. The development and continual advancement of Curve’s proprietary systems, along with great staff and fantastic clients, have made this a reality.

Outside of work, Andrew’s interests include new technology, comedy and travel – although these days he is mostly kept busy by family life with his wife Nicky, a magazine editor, and their two small children.

Director: Institutional Markets

Growing up, Peter’s father ran a 15-person business manufacturing sheet metal to produce high-quality toolboxes, first aid kits and barbeques. His close relatives were also involved in dairy, wheat and sheep farming.

Peter began his 33-year career in financial markets as a dealer at Commonwealth Bank, and went on to work at NAB in senior roles including Head of e-Commerce, Manager of Professional Funds, Global Markets Business Analyst and Head of Infrastructure Support in Wholesale Banking Global Markets.

He has passionately shared his insights with central banks, regulatory bodies, state central borrowing authorities and institutional clients to develop the best possible financial system within the debt markets.

Peter was Chairman of the AFMA Long Term Securities Committee between 1999 and 2001. He has been Director for Institutional Markets at Curve Securities for just under four years, and gains enormous satisfaction in contributing to the growth and development of a financial services business supported by his clientele of top tier domestic and global fund managers.

Peter and his wife have also continued their family tradition by running a sheep farm in Goulburn, and produce high-quality wool and fat lamb products – a world away from institutional finance!

Director: Institutional Markets

Phil has worked in financial markets for more than 30 years, the majority in short-end sales. He was at NAB for 15 years and held senior roles including Director for Institutional Sales.

He thrives on forging long-term mutually beneficial relationships with his clients, and many have become close friends over the years.

Phil is particularly passionate about the Commercial Paper market, a product he managed for five years while at NAB. His role involved plenty of discussions, negotiations and presentations to borrowers and investors, which resulted in many new and increased issuer mandates – along with a much wider investor base.

He has been Director for Institutional Markets at Curve Securities for two years.

Outside the money market Phil has a love of travel and sport. He has visited more than 180 countries in every corner of the globe – including places as diverse as North Korea, Somalia, Antarctica and, most recently, Sudan.

His passion for sport has also seen him attend the last three summer and winter Olympics, English Premier League games, a domestic cricket competition in the Caribbean, and World Cups in cricket, rugby, football (soccer) and speedway.

Director: Interest Rate Markets

When not helping his clients optimise their Treasury Management Operations, David can be found pounding the pavement, lapping up and down the pool or racing on two wheels as an elite age group triathlete.

He has worked in the financial markets for more than a decade with comprehensive experience in treasury functionality and banking operations. David has dealt in NCDs, bank bills, FRNs, government securities, term deposits and swaps – while also participating in liquidity management, securitisation, portfolio management, interest rate risk and hedging operations.

David has an extensive background in economics including a double-degree in Business and Finance, a Diploma of Financial Services and a dealing accreditation through the Australian Financial Markets Association. David leads our daily and monthly economic commentary, research and reporting, and regularly delivers presentations at conferences and industry forums.

He was previously involved in the operation of Austraclear and Exchange Settlement Accounts with the Reserve Bank of Australia while working at one of Australia’s largest Mutual Banking Institutions.

David has been Director for Interest Rate Markets at Curve Securities for more than four years.

Associate Director: Interest Rate Markets

Alex holds a double-degree in Finance and Microbiology from the University of Otago, and began his career as a Research Analyst at Asia Private Equity Research in Hong Kong.

He went on to spend three years working in business development for high net worth individuals specialising in the export of New Zealand beef and lamb to the Chinese market.

Alex later joined the New Zealand Credit Union (NZCU) as a contractor assisting with pre-merger preparations before joining Curve Securities as Associate Director for Interest Rate Markets.

On the weekends you can find Alex at the Lake Golf Club working on his single digit handicap.

Director: Operations & Compliance

Damien has spent the past 13 years working for fund managers, custodians, registries and brokers. He began his career in Corporate Actions before moving to a middle office role that saw him exposed to a large variety of financial products, as well as the operational requirements to support them.

While working in funds management, Damien was responsible for the operational set up of bespoke investment mandates while working closely with Front Office and Compliance to ensure limits were compliant with the mandate. Damien was a key contributor in the establishment of Australia’s first dedicated fixed income managed discretionary account platform.

He has previously worked at Challenger, Westpac, JP Morgan, Boardroom and, most recently, FIIG Securities.

Embarking on a six-month sabbatical in 2009, Damien surrounded himself in the beautiful countryside of Banff, Canada, and worked as a doorman.

He later returned to Sydney and the financial markets, but in January 2013 moved with his wife and their young children to Queensland for a different lifestyle and a role as Operations Manager for a fixed income broker. Despite enjoying their new life, the family decided to move back to New South Wales later that year to be with their family and friends.

Damien and his family share a love of travel and new adventures – with anything from a cruise to camping on the cards. He is a baseball fanatic who closely follows the Toronto Blue Jays and their attempts to return to their successes of 1992-3.

Associate Director

James joined the Curve team in early 2016 after completing a Commerce degree at the University of Sydney, majoring in Finance and Accounting. He has a keen interest and aptitude to fixed income markets, and assists David to write Curve’s daily and monthly market commentary.

Prior to Curve, James was managing retail stores for a branch of the Woolworth’s chain. A keen sportsman, he played at the Western Suburbs grade cricket club for 10 years and can now be found at the golf course most Saturday mornings, playing off single figures. An AFL man, James welcomes any opportunity to discuss the ins and outs of team lists and premiership hopes.
