Torquay, 11 – 13 November

Curve Securities attended their busiest conference to date when they hosted a trade stand at the Local Government Finance Professionals Conference at Torquay, Victoria.

Known as FinPro, the three-day event began on Wednesday November 11th and attracted 196 delegates from all 79 councils in the state. Together they are responsible for an annual combined revenue of approximately $12bn.

Deputy mayor of Surf Coast Shire, Cllr. Clive Goldsworthy, gave a welcome address and inspirational speaker Abdi Aden followed with a talk on this year’s theme, ‘Change, Adapt and Thrive’.

On Thursday, the busy schedule saw eight speakers tackle issues from the economy to innovation, preparing long-term financial plans, integrity frameworks and fraud, and the day ended with a dinner for 240 guests.

The conference was then brought to a close on Friday with technical discussions on the impending rate capping legislation, and a humorous talk from Dr Tony Villano on ‘The Future of Local Government in Australia’.

As well as being a Silver Sponsor to the conference, Curve Securities offered guests the chance to win an Apple TV – with the prize going to the delegate who made the closest guess of the three month BBSW on Friday morning. Many delegates were a little wide of the mark with strong employment numbers pushing Friday’s BBSW up four points to 2.24%.
